Evolution of a Walker (video above was July 10, 2013)
June 23 – ZBL took his first step
Week of June 30 – took 2-5 steps 3 days but still was mainly crawling
Week of July 7 – could walk person to person for about 4-8 steps
Week of July 14 – could walk across the carpet to the couch, about 10-12 steps
Week of July 21 – started walking person to object like from mom to the couch and then object to object like from the play yard to the couch. Sees walking as a way to get places and initiates it himself :-)
Week of July 28 – getting ready for Disneyland trip, John decides to get Z some shoes and really focus on walking. Not sure whether this is good timing or not as we want Z to be happy in his stroller @ Disneyland but fish gotta swim! And Z loved, loved, loved his shoes (still does :-).
During this week, he realized that he could carry a ball more easily walking instead of having to do his “chimpanzee crawl” which entailed holding the ball in one hand and scooting along the floor with 1 hand and both legs propelling him. Wish I’d gotten this one on video! :-). John noticed the change first and we could tell there was a realization that Z had made about how walking might help him. :-)
August 5 - Disneyland! He enjoyed walking around the hotel room and loved having his shoes. And he was content in the stroller. we took some walks around the toddler areas @ Disney & CA Adventure too and he had time to explore. At some point during this trip, he decided that walking was the way to go and when we got home…..
August 10 – ZBL was back home and had decided that walking was it – no more crawling (unless absolutely necessary). Now to work on stability! But the switch had been flipped – no going back now. :-)
